The Long Table of Building Culture – Continuing to Build Offenbach

On 19 June 2026, we invited guests to an open city conversation at the HafenCampus of the HfG Offenbach: Continuing to Build Offenbach – From Masterplan 2030 to the City of Tomorrow. What was originally planned as a panel discussion became a genuine evening of encounter — in the truest and most pleasant sense of the word.

Despite the summer heat, Prof. Dr. Kai Vöckler, Ron Reck and Jan Schulz discussed with the guests how a city can grow without losing itself. At the centre of the conversation was Offenbach am Main: a city in transition, with an ambitious Masterplan 2030 and the potential to become a model for sustainable urban development in the Rhine-Main region.

Under the name The Long Table of Building Culture, a format emerged that we at alma:s Architekten firmly believe in: architecture and urban development don’t need a stage — they need a table where everyone has a seat. Together with the HfG Offenbach as host, Rimini Offenbach for the culinary side, and the Rumpenheim fire brigade for the trestles that turned a concept into a real table, an evening came together that will be remembered.

For us, as an architecture practice with personal and professional roots in Offenbach, this kind of engagement is more than a public statement. It’s a stance: building culture emerges through conversation — between planners, owners, city society and the next generation.

The many positive responses — on LinkedIn, on Instagram and in person — confirm what we, as a member of the Förderverein of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur, have believed from the start: quality in built space begins with quality in dialogue.
